Would that be possible to add a list of preload kernel modules for initramfs

This is particular useful if we deal with some special hardware like raid or network devices which can not be detected by /sbin/detect.

Current logic in init script looks like below:

for module in /sbin/detect | sort | uniq; do

modprobe $module 2>/dev/null

I'm thinking to change it to:

for module in $PRELOAD_MODULES; do

modprobe $module 2>/dev/null

for module in /sbin/detect | sort | uniq; do

modprobe $module 2>/dev/null

It is just where to put that list of $PRELOAD_MODULES. bootstrap.conf looks like a good place to me.

This feature has been added and is part of the 3.2 tree. The kernel argument wwkmods= will preload modules before detect starts its magic.
